The gateway of North East

The world is very vast. There are countries and within them contain the states and within them, the cities . It is in these cities political life nourishes, within the gaps of political life, we find wonderful traces of nature and it's natural beauty..The globe being huge can be a reason of us staying in oblivion, regarding their mere existence.
Whenever I interact with people and tell them regarding my place of origin, they are quite not sure where "Siliguri" actually is. Sometimes they think its in Nepal and it's becomes quite depressing  for me. Thus I have come here to acknowledge everyone of this small place, named Siliguri, quite situated on the foothills of The Himalayas, serving as the gateway to the NorthEastern part of India.

If anyone googles out, they can really find all the geographical data associated to this place, so let me tell some interesting facts ( that you will not find on the Google) ; that I have collected over the last 19 years or so..

Siliguri is a small place, lying in the North Eastern part of the Indian map quite situated
on the foothills of the Himalayas ( like I earlier said) which is on the banks of the river Teesta - serving as the powerhouse. It is connected to the hilly areas of gangtok and the low lying areas of Bangladesh border by a magnificent arc bridge built over the Teesta  known as the Coronation bridge or The bagh pool - serving as the also route to Sikkim. Thus it has become now a tourist view point and one can enjoy the picturesque bliss of the green water flowing downstream.

Though Siliguri is a small place, but it has its borders connected to three of our neighboring countries- Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan. Thus it serves as one of the most important trading centre of North East .In fact one of the cheapest market of the North East -(The Hongkong market) is found on this small little place. It is here that you will find people having different culture and language. It is in fact a place of mixture of culture and linguistic. Siliguri is an exporter of tea and timber to the international markets, it's forest contains the mahogany wood, which obviously needs no introduction.

Siliguri being surrounded by hills makes it one of the important tourist hotspot. If you want to go to Sikkim or to darjeeling then you will have to make a stop here. The famous Indian heritage - The Toy Train runs uphill to Darjeeling - twisting and twirling through the beautiful hills of North East. It is also the home to three well-known wildlife sanctuaries .Another important thing that can't be missed is that it also serves as the only place through which you can reach the North Eastern  part of India - i.e. The Assam, The meghalaya, The Arunachal, thus giving this place the name - "The Gateway of North East".

One of the most important thing that always mesmerises me above all, is it's climate.
Siliguri experiences basically tropical climate with moderate rainfall during rainy season, but what's amazing is that the average temperatures in summer is about 30° and during the winters it's 17°, neither too hot nor too cold  providing a perfect weather to enjoy the scenic beauty around.

As times change , so does technology and with it comes modernization, which too has many disadvantages - In recent times traffic is on the rise and this has been a major problem now.Like many different big commercial cities, Siliguri is also under the grasp of congestion and traffic jam.But I believe this will be solved soon .

So now I think now people reading this post will not tell " Siliguri is in Nepal".
Thank you and have a great day..

Live and let live

" They tell you to be yourself and then they judge you" It was just a few days back that while scrolling down the pages of my social media feeds, I came across a post, where a mother staying in Toronto, wrote about how her son became the prey of school bullyism ,which even got his life. The post was in fact a request which she had made to the school authorities regarding their cooperation.  The school authorities hadn't cooperated as they thought it might degrade their reputation..such was their attitude towards a student who studied at their school..  You must have heard about the story of " Thirteen reasons why" ( though there's no offence in not knowing about it). It's not a story of only Hannah Baker or of some high school student but its way more than that. Its a story of how the present society works. It's a story that says: " They tell you to be yourself and then they judge you". "Bullyism" The word seems so lucid to spell,...

Lets not forget, before its too late!!!

As we move on with life, we find many people surrounding us, accompanying us as we trudge on the belts of the treadmill.  Some of these people may be with you or may be reaching out to you, through different means. - but that's not important. What's important is the relationship that we share with them.  As we start our day, we see them performing their own duties. It may be the man selling milk or newspaper to our doors, or the house maid doing all the odd chores or  our nearby neighbour playing his idiotic loud music..or maybe our roommate, which whom we sometimes end quarreling. They can be anyone, who has an effect to our lives, and here lies the irony , having them we get so much carried away that we become completely ignorant of their existence and get used to, we sometimes completely neglect their importance, and I guess that's natural, after we all have a very complicated life to handle and as one says " Life happens " - it does really happen, ways cross ...
